New Studio!
I've rented space in a co-op art studio, starting this month. I'm loving it so far. I still only have my stuff half-moved in, but I've been over there to work a few times already, and it has been really productive. This will be a test for me, for a few months, to see if I like working in a shared space (that isn't home-family-shared space). For years I've been interested in exploring the idea of working in a space with other artists, just for the synergy, but I've never felt I could justify spending the money, since I do have space in my house to do my work. And there's a different kind of good energy about doing art with my family swirling about. It also can be a huge distraction: I can't seem to stop doing the laundry and tidying while I'm working. So I stumbled upon this opportunity when I met another artist from the studio through the KW Art Walk, while we were looking for space for the show, and it just felt like it was written... B has been really encouraging and J is understanding. Maybe I'm the one who feels most odd about not working from AEcern, but that's okay, too. I find I'm still doing art at home, too, just different things. And oddly, I'm feeling like I have more time for art. When I'm there, whether alone, or with some of the other artists, sometimes I hear and feel the little train trundling by, or see the full moon, or listen to the band practicing next door, and I think I can see that writing, calligraphed with the new feather pens and ink B and J bought for me at Pennsic...
