Books have been seriously slowing me down the past few weeks. Got Children of Earth and Sky and shortly after, The Raven King. Still have Late in the Day that I'm slowly reading through when I have quiet moments. I was disappointed a bit by Children of Earth and Sky... it was not focused. Still neat things and a good feeling, but it kind of went nowhere. As part of the arc of his writing, I appreciated it- it seemed like a logical extension of themes he's been exploring, but it was a rambly, less interesting part of the conversation. I will be interested, still, to see what happens in his next book. He's clearly got a theme on his mind.
The Raven King, however, I just didn't enjoy at all. It was like it had turned off the path and gone somewhere else, entirely. As if she stopped the plot and just explored her characters. To me, it felt a mess. Oh well. It's her vision, after all. I possibly just didn't understand it. I'm sure some people have the same reaction to my art!
Speaking of art, I have been working, slowly, on Livia's first piece. I had such a block about it at first, and it's still only revealing itself slowly to me.
