Slate grey days

Less than a month until the winter solstice, and it feels like the deep winter already.  Earlier this week, we returned from a trip to the states just a few hours ahead of a blizzard that dropped 6ft of snow on Buffalo.  It was more like 6 inches here, but that's a lot for November.  This weekend it's thawing and raining, but feels almost as cold, as the snow evaporates and meets the sleet coming down.  It's raw, like March.  Time to sing the Brrr Song.  At breakfast this morning, we watched the sky change color, in just a few minutes, from a blue-slate grey, to a pale, watery white grey, and then to a solid, deep grey, all contrasted against the white of the snow on the neighbor's roof.  It was beautiful and strange.

In honor of winter and its effects on me, I have purchased new, red boots.  As we trekked through the snow this week, I felt like J and I were Snow White and Rose Red, walking through the forest with our bear shadowing us, while I wore boots like elf berries.  I'm sure J leaves behind breadcrumbs and acorn caps, no matter what story she wanders through.

Speaking of fairytales, we will be going to see The Snow Queen soon, and J will also get to see Snow White.
